When is it required to have a Root Canal?

When does somebody need to have root canal surgery?
Answer:
Basically if your tooth is damaged enough from a cavity etc that made its way down past the enamel and dentin, to the nerve.
?
When, instead of pulling it out (which eventually it will be anyway, had several) the dentist wants to bilk you for more money before the inevitable happens.Probably not what you wanted to hear, but its the truth.
I had mine when the nerve in the tooth died. Said it wasn't going to hurt cos the nerve was dead. Liar.
When the tooth is as good as lost and will fall very soon
The nerve is taken out and no more pain to that tooth.
Root canals are not that bad. Trust me. May be expensive though and then you MAY need a crown on top of that.
When the root nerves in the tooth are dead. When the nerves are dead, the tooth dies and it looses its ability to maintain. So, they basically remove the nerves and make it hollow, pack it with some hardener compound and put a crown on top. Now, you have a false tooth in place of the dead tooth. A simple procedure.
a root canal is required when the root dies
When there is evidence of a big cavity that has already eaten into the tooth, and down into the root. This is basically the stage when the tooth cannot be saved. You are sure to know because you will most likely have bad pains.
Don't wait it out, consult a dentist and get the work done.
Good luck
If your tooth is sensitive to hot and cold, keeps you awake at night, pressure and swelling then you will need a root canal to save the tooth. The only other option would be to have the tooth taken out and do a bridge or an implant. When you have a root canal done they take the nerve of the tooth out and fill it with a material called Gutta Percha. After the root canal is done you need to have a crown done to protect the tooth from breaking. Your tooth becomes very brittle when you have had a root canal done so that is why you put a crown on it. You want to protect it.
