When should?

I had a root canal done like 2 and 1/2 years ago and when it was done the dentist said it would have to be crowned. y question is how long after i had it happen is it to long, they left one root in the tooth. thanxs!

you really ought to get it crowned as soon as you can.since they cleaned one of the roots out, you don't want to risk further damage to the tooth, or the risk of stuff getting in the hollow root area now.which could lead to infection. hope this helps :)

I had a root canal done and couldn't afford the crown right away, they put some sort of blue stuff on it and it lasted for over a year.
I was still able to get a crown put on.
You would have to see a dentist to know for sure.

You can wait a few years. Your tooth now has no root and will eventually turn black. I'm sure you'll want a crown before that happens. Give your dentist a call for an approximate time frame.

Hopefully you haven't lost all the temporary filling material they placed at the time but you should get the crown done as soon as you can. Even though can no longer feel pain in the tooth, since the root canal removed the nerve, the tooth can still decay and there may no longer be enough of it left to put a crown on. It's likely to need to be built-up in order to have enough to make a crown on. There isn't too much risk of infection to the tooth, but if there is gum tissue grown around broken off areas of the tooth this could be somewhat infected and sore and would have to be removed as well.
Don't worry it shouldn't be painful the tooth is "dead" and the dentist can numb the area around it to do the other parts.

IF IT'S BEEN 21/2 YEARS SINCE THE ROOT CANAL AND THE TOOTH IS STILL IN 1 PIECE, CONSIDER YOURSELF VERY LUCKY. BY NOW THE TOOTH HAS BECOME BRITTLE BECAUSE ITS NOURISHMENT HAS CEASED AFTER THE ROOT CANAL.
SO WHAT?
BITING PRESSURE MAY FRACTURE THIS TOOTH. THAT'S WHY A CROWN IS PRUDENT.

Listen to Dr. Albert. You are lucky the tooth hasn't fractured. I broke a molar on a tortilla chip a couple of years after a root canal. The dentist was still able to put on a crown. Don't wait much longer.
