When Mouthwash burns does that mean it's working?

I think it's the alcohol, but I've been told by several people that the burning sensation is actually the mouthwash wiping out bacteria. Is this true?
Answer:
No, it is alcohol stripping away the good and the bad bacteria in your mouth. It is better to brush your teeth, floss, and rinse with a salt water solution or a mild, non-alcoholic mouth wash you can get at any drugstore. The more you use alcohol, it will kill the good bacteria and cause you to have more problems.Chew gums with xylitol between meals to keep your saliva active and healthy.
No that is not true. That is just alcohol in some mouthwashes. Switch to an alcohol free mouthwash.
Some taste like battery acid. Some don't. I don't think you can gauge the effectiveness on the burn, contrary to the advertisements. I use a typical anti-cavity flouride mouthwash. It tastes more pleasant.
Nah. That's just what they do to make it seem like it's working. Look for Breath RX products. They cost more but they are the best you can buy.
no
The burning sensation is the mouthwash wiping out the bacteria, you heard right. Thats what they say on the Listerine Commercials.
Yes and no. It's the alcohol burning your mucus membranes (actuall killing the cells lining the inside of your mouth) while it also kills the bacteria. This is why mouthwashes without alcohol can be just as effective, but without the burn - they just use something other than alcohol to kill the bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide, maybe?
